Pennsylvania once again becomes the center of the Presidential Election

By Marium Zahra

UPDATE: The Associated Press called Pennsylvania as favored for Trump.

Key swing states like Arizona and Michigan will all be ones to wait and watch for in the 2024 election, however one state once again becomes the landmark that will most likely determine the result of the election. Pennsylvania– won by presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2020– is the battleground state to watch for as updates come out about polling.

According to polls by The Associated Press, Kamala Harris is currently leading in Pennsylvania by 61%. On November 4, Harris visited capital city Philadelphia to address voters in a campaign rally showing her focus on the state and city which Philadelphia mayor anticipates to give her approximately “650,000-750,000 votes.”

Republican candidate Donald Trump also looks to try and win the state, telling a radio station that Pennsylvania will lead him to victory if he wins the state. He said on Tuesday night that if he wins Pennsylvania, “he wins the whole deal”. The former president also said that winning the state would be difficult considering the Democratic majority in previous years. Still, he encouraged all those who haven’t voted to get to the ballots immediately.

Philadelphia also has a large number of Puerto Rican people; the Harris campaign hopes that Trump’s comments in his rally in Madison Square Garden last week will encourage the almost 400,000 Puerto Rican voters to cast their ballots for the Democratic Party. The Harris campaign also reported to CNN that they are ready for the several weeks of litigation following the election.

With both parties and presidential candidates vying for the electoral votes from Pennsylvania, it becomes the state to watch out for in the election and with its likeliness to go blue, the circumstances make it a battleground state that may be the ultimate decider in the 2024 Presidential Election.
