The first transgender woman White House intern. The first out transgender state senator. The first transgender person to speak at the Democratic National Convention. Now, Sarah McBride will be the first transgender member of Congress.
McBride’s political career has been full of firsts and this Election Day, she became the first trans member of Congress representing the state of Delaware.
Her campaign includes focusing on healthcare, both as a trans woman and witnessing her husband’s experience with receiving care for his oral tongue cancer.
A decade after his death, McBride continues to run with him as a source of inspiration.
Additional core aspects of her platform include education, economic justice, and LGBTQ+ rights.
She will take the spot of Lisa Blunt Rochester who replaces Sen. Tom Carper.
